Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about planning your ski trip with VentureOff
Budget & Costs
The Max Daily Ski Pass slider on the resort map filters resorts by the cost of a single-day adult lift pass (high season, 2025/26 prices). Move the slider to set your maximum — only resorts with a day pass at or below that price will appear on the map.
The slider ranges from €30 to €250, covering everything from budget-friendly Eastern European resorts (~€38/day) to premium North American destinations (~€210/day).
Note: this filter only covers the daily lift pass cost. Your total trip cost will also include flights, accommodation, transfers, equipment rental, and meals. Use the Trip Planner for a full cost breakdown.
Daily adult lift pass prices vary significantly by region. Here are typical ranges for the 2025/26 season:
| Region | Day pass range | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Eastern Europe | €38 – €58 | Kranjska Gora (€38), Bansko (€51) |
| Spain | €45 – €55 | Sierra Nevada (€45), Baqueira (€55) |
| France | €55 – €75 | La Plagne (€55), Val d'Isère (€75) |
| Austria | €68 – €75 | St Anton (€68), Ischgl (€70) |
| Italy | €60 – €70 | Cortina (€60), Val Gardena (€65) |
| Switzerland | €82 – €95 | Crans-Montana (€82), Zermatt (€95) |
| Scandinavia | €58 – €67 | Hemsedal (€58), Trysil (€62) |
| USA | €180 – €210 | Aspen (€180), Vail (€210) |
All prices are sourced from official resort websites and converted to euros where applicable. When you move the budget slider on the map, it filters to show only resorts with a day pass at or below your selected amount.
Prices are indicative estimates for the 2025/26 winter season. Actual costs vary based on:
- When you book (earlier is usually cheaper)
- Peak vs. off-peak weeks (half-term and Christmas are most expensive)
- Your departure city and airport
- Accommodation standards and location within the resort
For real-time prices, use the Trip Planner which pulls live flight data and shows current deals from our partner sites.
In general, booking 2–4 months in advance gives you the best balance of availability and price. Here are some tips:
- Flights: Book 6–10 weeks ahead for the best fares. Mid-week departures (Tuesday/Wednesday) are often cheaper.
- Accommodation: Popular resorts sell out fast during peak weeks (Christmas, half-term, Easter). Book early for these periods.
- Lift passes: Some resorts offer early-bird discounts if you buy online in advance rather than at the ticket office.
- Off-peak: January (excluding New Year) and March often have great snow, fewer crowds, and lower prices.
A ski trip involves several cost categories beyond the basics:
- Equipment rental: €25–€50/day for skis, boots, and poles. Book online in advance for 10–20% discounts.
- Lessons: Group lessons typically cost €30–€60/day; private lessons €200–€400/day.
- Transfers: Airport-to-resort transfers range from €30 (shared shuttle) to €200+ (private car).
- Food & drink: Mountain restaurants typically charge €15–€30 per meal. Self-catering can save significantly.
- Insurance: Travel insurance with winter sports cover is essential — typically €30–€80 for a week.
Use the Trip Planner to see estimated costs for all these categories for your specific trip.
Flights & Trains
Flight prices and schedules are sourced in real-time from the Travelpayouts API, which aggregates data from hundreds of airlines. When you search in the Trip Planner, we fetch live prices for your specific route and dates.
The 'Book Flight' buttons on each flight card take you to Aviasales with your search pre-filled, so you can compare all available options and complete your booking.
Train options (Eurostar + TGV connections) are based on published winter timetables for the 2025/26 season. We show realistic connections from London via Paris to Alpine resorts, and direct TGV services from Paris.
The 'Book on Trainline' button takes you to Trainline with your route pre-filled to check live availability and book tickets.
Local train and bus connections from airports to resorts are also shown where available.
This depends on whether you enter a return date:
- No return date → We show one-way flight and train options
- With return date → We show full round-trip packages combining outbound and return flights/trains with total prices
Resorts & Map
VentureOff currently features 55+ ski resorts across the Alps, Pyrenees, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, North America, and Japan. Resort data (piste kilometres, lift pass prices, difficulty levels, snow reliability) is compiled from official resort websites and updated for the current season.
Each resort has an AI-generated guide providing personalised insights including estimated costs, recommended restaurants, après-ski highlights, and tips for your skill level. These are generated using Grok AI and tailored to the 2025/26 season.
You can access these from the resort detail modal on the map (click 'Read AI-Powered Guide') or from the individual resort pages under Ski Guides.
You can compare up to 3 resorts side by side. Click the 'Compare' button on any resort modal to add it to your comparison list. Once you have 2 or 3 resorts selected, click 'Compare Now' to see them side by side with key stats, highlights, and links to their AI guides and trip planners.
The Nearest Airport dropdown on the map lets you filter resorts by their closest airport. Select an airport (e.g. Innsbruck, Geneva, Zurich) and the map will show only the resorts that are served by that airport.
This is especially useful if you already know which airport you're flying into and want to see all the resorts within easy transfer distance. Many resorts are accessible from more than one airport — for example, French Alpine resorts may be reachable from both Geneva and Chambéry.
Find My Perfect Resort is a structured quiz — you select your preferences from dropdowns and filters, and it returns ranked resort matches. Great if you know roughly what you want and prefer a guided form.
AI Trip Planner is a free-form conversation. You describe your trip in your own words and the AI handles everything — from finding the right resort to estimating your full trip cost. It's ideal when you have a vague idea (e.g. “something fun and affordable for a group”) and want the AI to figure out the details.
Both tools use the same resort matching engine under the hood.
The Find My Perfect Resort tool uses AI to recommend resorts based on your preferences. Tell it your skill level, budget, travel dates, group size, and what matters most to you (e.g. off-piste, family-friendly, nightlife), and it will suggest the best-matching resorts with personalised explanations.

App & Technical
The AI Trip Planner is VentureOff's agentic AI feature. Instead of filling in forms, you simply describe your ideal ski trip in plain English — for example, “quick ski weekend with my partner” or “ski trip with mates, great après-ski, no crowds” — and the AI plans everything for you.
It will:
- Find and rank the best resorts for your group
- Search flights and train options from your city
- Check airport-to-resort transfers
- Estimate full trip costs (accommodation, lift passes, gear rental, lessons, meals)
- Check current snow conditions
The conversation is interactive — the AI asks follow-up questions with clickable choices to guide you step by step. No sign-up required.
The AI Trip Planner uses a mix of live data and curated estimates:
- Live: Flight prices (from Travelpayouts API), resort details (terrain, lift pass prices), snow reports
- Estimated: Accommodation, ski gear rental, lessons, and meal costs are based on curated per-country and per-budget-level estimates for the current season
As we add booking partners, estimated costs will be replaced with live prices. For now, the estimates give you a reliable ballpark to plan and budget your trip.
The chat bubble in the bottom-right corner connects you to our AI assistant powered by Grok. You can ask it anything about ski resorts, trip planning, snow conditions, equipment advice, or how to use VentureOff.
The assistant is context-aware — it reads the page you're currently on, so if you're viewing a resort guide and ask 'what are the best runs for beginners?', it will answer specifically about that resort.
For full trip planning, use the AI Trip Planner instead — it can search resorts, flights, and build complete cost breakdowns.
Yes! VentureOff is a Progressive Web App (PWA) that you can install on your phone's home screen:
- iPhone (Safari): Tap the Share button (square with arrow) → 'Add to Home Screen'
- Android (Chrome): Tap the three-dot menu → 'Install app' or 'Add to Home screen'
The installed app works like a native app with fullscreen mode. It requires an internet connection but loads faster thanks to caching. Note: on iPhone, you must use Safari — other browsers don't support PWA installation on iOS.
Different data sources have different update frequencies:
- Flight prices: Real-time (fetched live when you search)
- Resort data: Updated seasonally (piste km, lift passes, etc.)
- AI guides: Generated fresh each time you view them
- Snow reports: Updated when you search in the Trip Planner
On desktop, resort names appear when you hover over a marker. Since touchscreens don't have hover, we show resort names permanently on mobile so you can see which resort is which before tapping. The labels are smaller on mobile to reduce clutter.
